How to Apply for Indians in  BDS Direct Admission

An undergraduate program in the field of dental sciences is called Bachelor of Dental Surgery, or BDS. BDS is a five-year degree that consists of four years of coursework and one year of required internship. Interns are assigned to different departments and rotate often during this time.

In India, there are about 27,000 BDS seats available each year. So, is it possible to be admitted directly to BDS? What are the requirements for BDS direct admission in India, as well as the costs and fee schedule? Find out the answers to these queries by reading on.

You are not alone if you want to work in dentistry but are terrified of the NEET exam. NEET exams are out of reach for many students, and in certain situations, their results are insufficient.

Qualifications for the BDS Admission in Kerala, India Course 2025:

The Dental Council of India (DCI) establishes the requirements for enrollment in the BDS program. There are no specific requirements for BDS direct admission in India.

  • Candidates must have earned at least 50% of the possible points at the 10 and +2/2nd PUC level from an accredited board. Candidates        in the reserved category must receive 40% of the possible points.
  • The candidates must have completed coursework in English, physics, chemistry, and biology.
  • Every applicant must pass the NEET-UG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate) test by the due date.
  • Candidates can attend the scheduled counseling rounds once they have received their NEET ranks.

In India, direct admission to BDS without NEET:

The next point to consider is whether direct admission to BDS in India is feasible without NEET. Unfortunately, direct admission to BDS in India is not feasible without NEET since it became required in 2017. However, do not be discouraged if breaking NEET has been challenging for you. It is still possible to become a doctor without NEET.

Is NEET Required for BDS Admission in India?

When students inquire about BDS admission in India without NEET, we initially inform them that NEET is required for the majority of seats. The National Testing Agency has mandated that all students, including those attending private universities, take NEET for BDS since 2016. Only 27,000 of the approximately 18 lakh students who attempted NEET last year were given BDS seats. For this reason, a lot of people search for alternatives. However, there is a method. In India, management quotas allow for direct admission to BDS without NEET. If you meet other requirements, these are places in private colleges where NEET scores are not the primary consideration.

Compared to the current ratio of one dentist for every 18,738 people, India will require 2 lakh additional dentists by 2030 to match global demands. Students like you have opportunities because of this need.

What Is Required to Be Eligible for BDS Without NEET?

Your 12th grade grades are the most important factor in determining your eligibility for BDS without NEET. A minimum of 50% in English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from an accredited board is required. 40% is sufficient if you fall into a reserved category. Additionally, by December 31 of the year you apply, you must be 17 years old. The DCI makes sure everything is fair, so check their website for the latest rules. This helps students who want dental courses in India without NEET as the only focus.

An overview of the NEET counseling process for BDS admissions

First preference is given to the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats that are accessible through NEET. The central level is where the counseling rounds for these seats are initially held. The State Authority counseling process applies to the remaining 85% of the seats. You would need to register for the state's counseling process if you wanted to attend a college in a different state from where you currently live.

The NEET counseling procedure typically consists of three rounds: Round 1, Round 2, and the Mop-up Round. The following is the counseling process after passing the NEET exam:

  • Register up for the counseling sessions.
  • Document Verification
  • Attending the first round of therapy. You would have to show up for the second round after giving up the seat you won in the first round if you were not accepted to the college of your choice.
  • Attending the second round of therapy. You would need to participate in the Mop-Up Round if your preferred college was not selected in the second round.
  • Going to the Mop-Up round. This round allots all of the seats that haven't been taken yet. You can use the Management quota category to choose the seat and list your preferred colleges.

Is It Possible to Study BDS in India

Is a possibility to study BDS in India without NEET? Management or NRI quotas provide you an opportunity, although not entirely for Indian students. Your 12th grades may be sufficient if your family is NRI. You can start with alternative dental courses, such as a diploma in dental hygiene, if NEET seems too difficult. These may eventually lead to BDS and provide access to high-paying medical careers without NEET. By 2030, the restorative dentistry market in India is expected to reach a value of USD 1.02 billion, meaning that even modest advances can result in large employment. It's important to start where you can.

Do Other Indian Dental Programs Not Require NEET?

Programs like dental assistant or hygienist training are available in India without NEET. These cost INR 2-5 lakhs and take two to three years. These courses fill critical gaps as more individuals require dental care—emergency visits occur at all ages. They assist you in developing abilities while making plans for more ambitious objectives.

Can Students from Other Countries Get BDS Without NEET?

BDS without NEET is simpler for international students. Instead of NEET, international students can use their high school results, such as A-levels. 15% of seats are reserved by colleges for international or NRI students. We assisted a Nepali student in gaining admission to a Bangalore college using only his transcripts and visa; NEET was not required.

The dental simulator industry in India is expected to reach USD 33.2 million by 2030, drawing students from all over the world despite the increased fees. For pupils who are not Indian, this is a good choice.
